There are many choices available to parents in regard to school these days. No longer is it required that children attend the local public school, instead parents can choose other types of schools or even home schooling. With the common use of the internet, online has also become an option. What Is Needed for Online Home Schooling For some parents, the traditional method of works well. They purchase curriculum and then teach it to their children. This is a common way to home school and is often very successful. For others though, it is more difficult tot each their children or their kids are at a higher level than what they are comfortable teaching. This is when online can be an advantages way to teach. Some programs are affiliated with the state and offered to students within that state. The state board of education can give you links that will then explain the curriculum involved in those programs. Stowaway Adventure Project
This multidisciplinary Internet-based learning experience has been designed to expose students to real world problem solving through unique uses of instructional technologies. In particular, students will use real time data from the Internet to track a real ship at sea, determine its destination and predict when it will arrive. In addition, they will have the opportunity to monitor the weather conditions at sea and predict when rough weather might impact on the ship's arrival time.
Population Growth Project
This series of activities explores the mathematical and environmental aspects of population growth. How fast is the population growing? Has it always grown at this rate? Are the populations of different countries growing differently? How can we predict the population in the future? How will a growing population impact the environment?
Navigational Vectors Project

Learn the principles of aviation navigation in this real time data project! After completing a number of pilot training lessons in which students learn how to use vectors, read real time weather maps, and track real planes flying in U.S. skies, students then put their knowledge to the test by taking the Pilot Test Flight. Here they will solve an authentic real world problem using science and mathematics.
Musical Plates: A Study of Plate Tectonics
Earthquakes, a scientific and physical phenomenon, affect our lives in many ways. In this project, students use Real-Time earthquake and volcano data from the Internet to explore the relationship between earthquakes, plate tectonics, and volcanoes.
Movie in the Making
In this project students will report on a book by describing how they would turn that book into a motion picture. After reading and studying the main components of their novel (character, plot, conflict, climax and denouement), students will use their imaginations to explain how they would cast and direct the movie versions. This project also provides enrichment activities where in the students will access archived materials such as the Academy Awards Data Base, movie posters, and movie reviews.
Noon Day Project
The Goal of the Noon Day Project is to have students measure the circumference of the earth using a method that was first used by Eratosthenes over 2000 years ago. Students at various sites around the world will measure shadows cast by a meter stick and compare their results. From this data students will be able to calculate the circumference of the earth.
Gulf Stream Voyage
The Gulf Stream Voyage is an online multidisciplinary project which utilises both real time data and primary source materials to help guide students to discover the science and history of the Gulf Stream. Students will investigate this great ocean current, how it affects the Atlantic Ocean and some of mankind's experiences dealing with it. This voyage includes activities for marine science, earth science, chemistry, physics, biology, maths, history and language arts. All may be easily used in today's technology enhanced classroom.

Some of the online programs also have web-cams so that your child can visually interact with a teacher. Online programs are available with many different types of curriculum.
